Norigae, Korean Pendant
Norigae, Korean Pendant
HyoYoung "Minna" Kim studied with SoULL in 2024. She says this about the norigae:
“I sewed this 노리개 (norigae), a traditional decorative pendant, using silk from Korea. This piece is inspired by the film 귀향 (Spirits’ Homecoming), where a norigae symbolizes the connection between past and present. I chose the traditional colors of 오방색 (obangsaek)—the five traditional Korean colors rooted in yin-yang philosophy and the five elements. Each triangle contains an element of Korean life: black (north, water: sea salt), blue (east, wood: mugwort), red (south, fire: chili pepper), white (west, metal: rice), and yellow (center, earth). Through this norigae, I seek to honor the medicines and wisdom carried through generations and invite others to reflect on what they, too, inherit.”
To select this gift, please donate at the $100 level (or more) on our fundraiser. Minna has offered 1 norigae. Gifts available while quantities last. Complimentary shipping within the US.
