Lecture 1: Coming Out of Denial
In the first lecture in Unit 1 of our core program, The Nature of Being Human, Jeanne Denney provides an overview of the common teachings and experiences that get in the way of seeing life truly, both cultural and personal.
We have usually been given the wrong ideas about both life and death. These result in us generally being not just death terrified, but also dangerously death ignorant. This certainly interferes with our right understanding of life. We explore how our values and ideas around death have changed throughout history, and open up new perspectives.
“[Death is] really a big deal in our unconscious. We’re thinking about it all the time without even being aware that we are, and it seems to connect to absolutely everything.”
